Magic Knight Rayearth Part 2, Volume 1 returns the three girls to Cefiro after their first adventure. This is the fourth paperback in the complete reading sequence, despite the printed number restarting at one. Read the first three books before it: the changed world and the girls’ uncertainty depend on what happened there. Experience gives the girls a reason to question their return before it gives them an explanation. The publisher describes them back in Tokyo, expecting never to see Cefiro again, then taken to a world that looks different. Emeraude cannot be the person who summoned them this time. That exclusion matters: recognizing the place does not establish who brought them there or what that person wants. Their earlier adventure cannot serve as a ready-made set of instructions for this one. This reading concerns the uncertainty in the publisher’s return premise, not a claim that the girls refuse to help or correctly identify the new force. The change is from an earlier mission whose cost they have experienced to a return whose source they cannot explain. Familiarity supplies a question, not authority for an answer.
