Mashle follows the Magia Lupus defeat with a precarious celebration, making this a continuation for readers finishing the dorm conflict. The victory is already behind Mash and his friends at the opening. What gives this volume its place is the difference between winning against hostile students and securing an accepted place at school. Those are not interchangeable achievements for a student whose survival depends on keeping his lack of magic hidden.

A magical court changes the kind of obstacle Mash faces. The publisher's synopsis moves from Innocent Zero threatening the group to rumors about Mash's inability to use magic landing him before that court. Physical success cannot answer an accusation whose substance is simply what he is. This is a more revealing test of the premise than another stronger opponent: the society can recognize his strength and still refuse his legitimacy. The legal problem also exposes the limit of the preceding victory. Removing the Magia Lupus gives him relief from particular enemies, not an exemption from the rule that excludes him.
