My Hero Academia 2 contains chapters 8 to 17 and opens with indoor combat training at U.A. The students now face other students under an assigned scenario, after the earlier assessment of individual abilities. Begin with Volume 1 if the relationship between Midoriya and Bakugo is unfamiliar. This is VIZ’s standard paperback; the first manga box also includes it. The opening analysis examines how an exercise becomes personal, without treating the training result as the book’s entire argument.

Spoilers — why this volume matters. Tap to reveal.

Midoriya’s notebooks stop looking like a substitute for action when he anticipates Bakugo’s right-handed attack. Observation gives him a defense even while he fears that an uncontrolled use of One For All could kill his opponents. Yet his determination to stop being Bakugo’s punching bag also competes with the exercise’s assigned objective. Uraraka is his partner, not an audience for settling their history. All Might’s grading manual and reminder against favoritism show that the teacher has a problem of judgment too; they do not prove that he actually grades unfairly. This reading uses printed pages 5–21 of VIZ’s licensed Volume 2 preview, within chapter 8. It ends before the exercise’s outcome and makes no claim about the remaining chapters.
