My Hero Academia 9 begins on the training camp's second day, with both classes pushed to strengthen their abilities. Chapters 72–80 open by assigning different exercises to different bodies rather than prescribing one universal drill. The scene also makes the students prepare their own meal. This reading follows the licensed opening through Midoriya's attempt to bring Kota food; later attacks, rescues and the boy's response remain beyond its inspected bounds.

Mandalay explains that cooking matters during disaster response, when someone must feed exhausted citizens. The chore has a clearer service purpose than the shouted instructions to tear abilities apart. Around the fires, Iida warns against relying exclusively on Todoroki for heat because the others must learn too. A power useful to the group can also prevent the group from practicing. Midoriya then carries a plate away from the common meal to Kota's hiding place. His offer meets refusal: Kota does not want company and finds the display of powers repellent. Midoriya's subsequent question about Water Hose receives only an accusation that Mandalay told him. Food preparation can be required as training; another person's trust cannot. The opening ends before generosity becomes a successful conversation.
