Vol. 5
Nana Anniversary Edition 5 presents a marriage announcement that brings little happiness to the people around Hachi. She and Takumi are getting married, while Nobu, Nana and even his bandmates take the news badly. Continue here within the Anniversary sequence for the relationships behind those reactions. The useful question is how a promised future changes Hachi’s place among people she already cares about; an announcement can establish a commitment without bringing a circle of friends together.
Spoilers — why this volume matters. Tap to reveal.
Hachi’s position changes from supporting Blast to watching its troubles through scandal coverage. The preceding Anniversary book describes her as the band’s biggest cheerleader, anxious about the growing audience. Here, the publisher places her in a new apartment, isolated from friends, with Takumi rarely home. When Trapnest leaves for Europe amid scandal, Hachi watches Blast suffer in publications and television coverage. That is a change in how she encounters the band’s life, not simply another choice between a partner and a friend. People she knows become people presented to her by outlets covering their distress. The premise does not establish that those reports are false or her only source of information. Its sharper cost is the distance between caring about what happens and being present with the people experiencing it.
