- Season 6: 師の予言と復讐の章 (Master's Prophecy and Vengeance) ep. 113–143
This is the slow book of the Itachi hunt, and it is not the reason to buy the run. Chapters 350 to 359 move three parties toward each other and bring only two of them into contact: Sasuke splits his team to look for Itachi, Konoha hears that Orochimaru is dead and sends a search party after Sasuke, and Akatsuki sends Deidara and Tobi to deal with him. Three of the ten chapter titles are about assembling, moving, or deciding where to go. The Deidara fight starts in the eighth chapter and does not finish here. Shippuden season 6 covers chapters 343 to 411, so the anime has been through all of it and no season boundary falls inside. Viz lists 200 pages at $11.99.
Spoilers — why this volume matters. Tap to reveal.
Seven of these chapters are travel and briefing and three are Deidara fighting Sasuke, which is an honest accounting of what the book is for. The useful content is structural: Jugo joins the team, Naruto reads Orochimaru's defeat as the opening he has wanted since Part I, and Akatsuki commits its bomber to a target it did not choose. Tobi arrives as Deidara's partner and is given almost nothing to do, which matters later rather than here. What the volume actually sets is the collision in the next two books: the Deidara fight is settled in Vol. 40 and the meeting with Itachi is arranged in the same book. Bought on its own this is ten chapters of positioning at the standard price. Read inside the run from 37 to 43 it does the job it exists for, which is getting three groups into the same forest.
