Chapters 464 to 473, in which the Five Kage Summit stops being a meeting and becomes a running battle through the building it is held in. Sasuke cannot get past the Raikage and his allies and goes after Danzo instead, the other Kage intervene, and Madara walks in with a demand for the two remaining hosts. The last four chapters change venue entirely and put Kisame Hoshigaki in the water with Killer Bee. Nothing here is self-contained: the fight runs out of the previous book and its consequences run into the next, so this is a volume to read inside the run rather than a place to join it. Shippuden's tenth season adapts chapters 451 to 489 and takes in all of it.

Two things in this book are load-bearing for everything after it. Danzo is exposed in front of the other Kage as having steered the summit with a Sharingan, which costs Konoha its standing at the moment it most needs allies, and Madara saves him from the consequences before declaring the Fourth Great Ninja War on all five villages. The alliance that fights that war is assembled here by people who spent the previous volume refusing to cooperate. The second is Kisame. He is apparently killed by Killer Bee and the Raikage in the closing chapters, and the word apparently is doing the work: Vol. 54 reveals that he faked it and hid inside his own sword to listen. The book ends on chapter 473, 'Bro', which is about the two brothers rather than the war, and it is the last calm chapter for a long stretch.
