Season 13: Seven Swordsmen / Chikara 「忍刀七人衆の章 / 力-Chikara-」 ep. 276–295; Season 14: Attackers from Afar 「忍界大戦・彼方からの攻撃者」 ep. 296–320

Chapters 545 to 555, eleven of them, in the longest volume of this stretch at 208 pages. The white Zetsu army has been passing as alliance troops, and Naruto and Killer Bee open the book dealing with them; where those things came from is the arrival that pays out longest, and it is in the section below. Gaara's force reaches the four revived Kage. The two hosts are then met by Nagato and Itachi, both under Kabuto's control, and chapter 550 is named for Kotoamatsukami. Season 13 ends at chapter 545, the first chapter here, so a viewer who finished it starts at the second, where season 14 begins. Viz does not print the contents of its later 3-in-1 books, so nobody buying this stretch that way is buying from a stated list.

Spoilers — why this volume matters. Tap to reveal.

The white Zetsu are grown from the First Hokage's cells, which is the fact underneath every later question about what Konoha's founders left behind and what Madara did with it. Gaara's fight is the other kind of debt: the Fourth Kazekage, his own father, is revived and set in front of him, and Gaara wins. Itachi breaks Kabuto's control from inside the reanimation, in the chapters around the one named for Kotoamatsukami, helps Naruto and Bee put Nagato down, and leaves to go after Kabuto alone, which is the thread the next several books follow. Chapter 549 is 'Itachi's Question!!', and the move is to put Itachi in front of Naruto with the reanimation broken and let him talk. Eleven chapters and 208 pages make this the fullest book between 49 and 60, and none of it is setup for somewhere else.
