Season 14 of Shippuden ends at chapter 558, the third chapter in this book, and most of its final eighteen episodes adapt nothing from the manga. Episodes 303 to 320 are largely anime-original, so a viewer working through them is not getting closer to this volume. Season 15 starts at chapter 559, the fourth chapter here, and runs to chapter 606, well past the book. Chapters 556 to 565 finish Gaara against the Second Mizukage, put Kabuto's strongest reserve into the field, and end with Tobi setting six former hosts on Naruto and Killer Bee. Chapter 560 is titled with the name, so anyone reading a chapter list before the chapters will meet it early.
Spoilers — why this volume matters. Tap to reveal.
Madara Uchiha is revived in this book, and the consequence is retroactive: the masked man is not Madara, and every scene he has had since Vol. 40, where he first claimed the name, belongs to someone whose name the series is still withholding. That is the largest single edit Naruto makes to its own past, and it lands better collected than it did weekly, because a reader can go back nineteen volumes in an evening and a weekly reader could not. Gaara's win over the Second Mizukage is the counterweight: the Kage line holds the front while the reveal is happening, and all five of them converge on Madara by the end of the book because nothing smaller works. Tobi's ambush uses Nagato's Rinnegan to put the bodies of former hosts, with their beasts resealed inside them, in front of Naruto and Bee. That fight runs through the next volume.
