This book takes its name from its own first chapter, 'Wyper the Berserker', and the arc changes shape inside it. Chapters 256 to 264 open with a bet: eighty-one fighters are on Skypiea, three hours are on the clock, and Eneru predicts that five will be left. From chapter 259 the chapter titles stop describing events and start reading as a fight card, six of them in a row formatted as one name against another, and the format carries into the next volume. Nothing is settled here. The anime's sixth season covers chapters 218 to 302, so a viewer has seen all of it. Viz lists 192 pages at $11.99, and this volume was one of five that shipped on 5 January 2010.

The bet is the change of register. Until chapter 256 Skypiea is an exploration story with an oppressive god somewhere overhead; after it, the arc is an elimination bracket with a number attached, announced by the man who intends to decide the number. The form then follows the premise. Chapters 259 to 264 are titled as pairings, and the book cuts between six duels running at once rather than following the captain, which those titles announce in advance. Two hours in, twenty-five fighters are left, and the count being kept accurately is the joke and the threat at the same time. Wyper is the reason the volume carries his name: he is the first opponent in the arc with a claim on the island rather than a job on it, and the grievance he fights with is what Skypiea turns out to be about. Nothing concludes, and the pairings continue straight into Vol. 29.
