This is the slackest book in the Skypiea arc, and knowing that before paying for it is the point of this page. Chapters 276 to 285 spend most of their length moving pieces into position: the captain is out of the action for the opening stretch, two of the crew hold a line while an evacuation happens elsewhere, and the fight the whole arc has been pointing at begins inside the book and does not finish in it. It is not the reason anybody buys this run. What it does is set the terms of the ending, so skipping it makes Vol. 31 and Vol. 32 harder to follow, which is the awkward position a middle volume occupies. The anime's sixth season covers chapters 218 to 302. Viz lists 208 pages at $11.99, the same price as the 192-page volumes.

Two things in this book are load-bearing and the rest is transit. The first is that Eneru's lightning does nothing to Luffy, because rubber does not conduct, which is the series cashing a power it gave its hero at the very start against the strongest opponent it had yet written. The arc's outcome is decided by that fact and not by any escalation, and the reader is told so two books before it is delivered. The second is Nami, who saves herself by offering to go with Eneru and is not punished by the story for it. Around those, the volume spends chapters on a captain trapped first in a snake and then in a ball of gold, on Usopp and Sanji stalling, and on an evacuation. 'Capriccio' is the third musical volume title in four books. Skypiea's payoff is in Vol. 31 and Vol. 32, and this is the book that carries it there, which is a real job and not a reason to own it by itself.
