The Skypiea arc ends three chapters before this book does, and that gap is where viewers and readers fall out of step. Chapters 296 to 305 close the war at chapter 302 and then begin something unrelated at 303: a new island, and a pirate crew who challenge the Straw Hats to a contest. The anime's sixth season stops at 302, the seventh of these ten chapters, so a viewer arriving from it starts three chapters from the end of a book they have otherwise already seen. Season 7 then opens with eleven episodes of anime-original material and does not reach chapter 303 until episode 207. Viz lists 216 pages at $11.99.
Spoilers — why this volume matters. Tap to reveal.
Luffy beats Eneru, reaches the golden bell and rings it, and the sound reaches the sea below, which settles the argument Noland was executed over. The Shandians and the sky people stop fighting, Ganfor takes back the god's seat, and the Straw Hats slip away with treasure they took rather than the reward they were about to be given, which is the arc declining, again, to let them be thanked in public. Then chapter 303 starts the Davy Back Fight, and the register drops from a war about lost history to pirates playing dodge ball. Plan around the seam. A reader who has watched the anime's sixth season and wants only what is new starts at chapter 303, eight chapters into this book; a reader who intends to skip the detour should know that the anime gives chapters 303 to 321 a whole season, so the material is short in print and long on screen.
