Rurouni Kenshin’s sixth book opens with Yutaro practicing at Kaoru’s dojo. Its actual contents list Acts 40 to 47 and an unnumbered end-of-volume special. This note reads only the licensed opening through Yutaro’s memory of the attack on his father, before that recollection supplies its result. The inspected pages give a reason for his divided loyalties; they do not establish the later Raijuta confrontation or describe the special story from its contents listing alone.

Yutaro calls bamboo sword practice childish, yet repeatedly returns, improves quickly and admits that training at the dojo is fun. Kaoru recognizes his potential and offers him a place as a student. He thanks her but still chooses Raijuta, making his refusal more complicated than a simple rejection of practice he dislikes. His recollection begins with bandits attacking the family carriage. His father offers them anything if they will not hurt the family, while Yutaro refuses to beg and insists on being a samurai. In his telling, mastery of the blade answers the shame he attaches to that surrender. The excerpt lets enjoyment and gratitude coexist with that harsher ideal of strength. It does not certify that his father’s attempt to preserve their lives was cowardice, or that the master Yutaro prefers will provide the protection he wants.
