Gundam SEED: Sub or Which Dub?
SEED has two English dubs, one for the 50-episode broadcast cut and one for the 48-episode HD Remaster. Three casts side by side, which disc has which dub, and why there is no critic's verdict.
Gundam SEED has two English dubs, and they belong to two different versions of the show. The original dub, recorded by The Ocean Group, covers the 50-episode broadcast series that Bandai Entertainment released and Cartoon Network broadcast in the United States. The second, recorded at NYAV Post and announced in 2017, covers the 48-episode HD Remaster. Choosing a dub mostly means choosing a cut.
The short answer
Decide which version you want first; the SEED watch order explains the difference. For the broadcast cut in English, the Ocean Group dub is the one recorded for it, and its leads are the cast Bandai Namco Filmworks brought to New York Comic Con in 2026. For the remaster in English, the NYAV Post dub is the one made for it. Japanese is the safe choice if you have no attachment to either English track.
The original dub
ANN's encyclopedia credits the first English version to The Ocean Group, with Bandai Entertainment as its original licensor and distributor. When Sunrise announced the new dub, ANN noted that "Bandai Entertainment released the original versions of both series with English dubs, and some episodes of Gundam Seed aired on Cartoon Network in the United States in 2004."
Bandai Namco Filmworks still promotes that cast. In September 2026 Bandai Namco Filmworks announced, in a press release carried by ANN, that Matt Hill, Sam Vincent and Matthew Erickson, "the English voices of Kira Yamato, Athrun Zala and Shinn Asuka," would appear together at New York Comic Con on October 8.
The remaster dub
Sunrise announced the HD Remaster dub at Otakon in August 2017, recorded at NYAV Post with "a brand new cast under director Carrie Keranen." ANN's report notes that Bandai Channel began streaming the 48-episode remaster in 2011. A second announcement in October 2017 added Kevin T. Collins as Rau Le Creuset, Keranen as Murrue Ramius and Tom Wayland as Mu La Flaga.

Which disc has which dub
The clearest description is of Anime Limited's UK Ultimate Edition. ANN's May 2021 report lists the 48-part remaster "in English (with the new dub) and Japanese," and the 50-part original on standard-definition Blu-ray "in English (with the original dub) and Japanese with English subtitles." The original includes two recap episodes, 14 and 26, that the remaster omits. In North America, Right Stuf announced in 2018 that its Ultra Edition set would include both English dubs, and its 2020 Collector's Ultra Edition was the only place it offered the original SD episodes.
What the reviewers heard
Less than for most shows on this site. The only review ANN's encyclopedia lists for the series, Paul Fargo's March 2004 review, written before the show's American debut, graded only the subtitled version, A, and praised a Japanese cast that included Kotono Mitsuishi, Rie Tanaka and Houko Kuwashima, who plays both Flay and Natarle. He wrote that it would "be interesting to see if the dub cast is able to pull off a similarly excellent job." ANN's encyclopedia lists no review of either English dub, so this page does not rank them.
A note on quoting
The two dubs are different scripts, so a line can exist in two English wordings, and a third in the subtitles. Our best Gundam SEED quotes page says which English rendering its lines follow, and the full SEED quote list has the rest. The ending explainer covers the last episodes, with spoilers.
