There are two ways to own orange in English from Seven Seas: four separately sold paperbacks read in order, or the Complete Series Box Set of seven single volumes. The trap is the name. The two books called The Complete Collection do not include the two follow-up books, so a shelf with only Collections 1 and 2 is missing the rest of the story.

The four-book route, in reading order

4orange -to you, dear one-March 7, 2023216$13.99

At list the four books come to $66.96. The publisher’s copy says the two omnibuses were released “as separate 384-page omnibus editions,” each with “wrap-around covers, color inserts” and shojo-style art. Collection 2 also carries a bonus story, “Haruiro Astronaut,” a five-chapter piece about twins that is not part of orange’s plot.

The follow-ups are not optional extras in the sense an art book is. -future- is billed as “the long-awaited sequel,” telling events “from the point of view of the ever-cheerful third wheel, Suwa Hiroto,” years later in college. -to you, dear one- is “the final follow-up volume,” about what happens next for Naho’s friends “in this brand-new timeline.”

The Complete Series Box Set

The box set (November 21, 2023, $79.99) takes a different shape: “For the first time ever in English, this hit manga will be presented in its original format of 7 single volumes, now contained in a beautiful box. Also includes a set of 8 postcards!” Its listed page count is 1,164, which happens to equal the four separate books added together, but the listing does not say book by book which stories the seven volumes contain, or whether Haruiro Astronaut is among them, so we do not map them to the four paperbacks.

Which to buy

  • Own Collections 1 and 2: add -future- and -to you, dear one-. The box would repeat what you have.
  • Starting from nothing, cost first: the four paperbacks, $13.03 less than the box at list.
  • Gift or display: the box, for the single-volume format and the postcards.

The orange catalog keeps the three editions apart with ISBNs. For the characters, see Naho Takamiya and Hiroto Suwa; the box format is discussed generally in what box-set extras include.
