Sakura Haruno Quotes

2 quotes from Naruto, each with commentary on what it means and why it stuck.

The member of Team Seven who asks what the profession is actually for. Her vows tend to arrive with both teammates unconscious, and the story makes her pay them off later rather than at once.

“Is that really it, Kakashi sensei? Is that the ninja way? To use and be used by people like tools?”

The strongest case against this one is that the series asks the question and then spends years not answering it, which is fair. What it does establish is who is willing to ask. Team Seven contains a boy who wants recognition and a boy who wants revenge, and the third member is the one interrogating the profession's terms of employment in front of the man who represents them.

“Okay, no more caving. Now it's my turn to take the lead. And all of you can watch me from the background.”

Said with both teammates unconscious and an enemy squad closing, which is the only condition under which the series would let her say it. What follows is the haircut, the failure to win, and a rescue by somebody else, so the vow is not immediately vindicated. It is instead the debt the character spends the rest of the story paying down, and the medical training arc is the receipt.
