Trigun Manga Buying Guide: Original Deluxe Before Maximum

Separate Trigun Deluxe from Trigun Maximum Deluxe, follow the six-book route, and calculate overlap with older English volumes.

Last updated October 8, 2026

For the Deluxe manga route, read the original Trigun before Trigun Maximum. The original Trigun Deluxe collects the two original English volumes. Maximum is the sequel series, and Maximum Deluxe 1 collects Maximum volumes 1–3. Those two opening purchases have different jobs: Maximum 1 is not an alternative printing of the original Deluxe.

The six-book Deluxe route

HardcoverCollected original English volumes
Trigun DeluxeOriginal Trigun 1–2
Maximum Deluxe 1Trigun Maximum 1–3
Maximum Deluxe 2Trigun Maximum 4–6
Maximum Deluxe 3Trigun Maximum 7–9
Maximum Deluxe 4Trigun Maximum 10–12
Maximum Deluxe 5Trigun Maximum 13–14

Read down the table once. Maximum Deluxe 5 collects volumes 13 and 14 and concludes Maximum. It is a two-volume collection at the end of a line whose earlier books contain three. Multiplying five collected books by three would invent a fifteenth Maximum volume.

Which purchase fits your shelf?

If you have no manga yet, start with the original Trigun Deluxe. Buy the Maximum books afterward in their own numbered order. If you have already read the original English Trigun 1 and 2 and want to continue, start with Maximum Deluxe 1; purchasing the original Deluxe again is a format upgrade rather than new story coverage.

If you own Maximum paperbacks, use the exact ranges instead of carrying the same number into the Deluxe line. An owner of Maximum 1–3 can continue at Maximum Deluxe 2. An owner of Maximum 1–4 would repeat volume 4 in that collection to gain 5 and 6. Decide whether that overlap is acceptable before buying a mixed lot; a deal on a book you mostly own may be less useful than the missing volumes.

What the hardcover specifications establish

The original Deluxe and Maximum Deluxe 1 are listed as 7 × 10-inch hardcovers with faux leather covers and ribbon bookmarks. Maximum Deluxe 1’s distributor page lists those same features. Choose that route if the larger page format or hardcover presentation is what you want to own. Those specifications do not establish a binding’s durability, paper feel, or how comfortably you will read it.

This guide covers the Deluxe collections rather than making a stock claim about older paperbacks. If a seller lists an older omnibus or a paperback, ask which original volumes it contains before using the table. The title Trigun, the title Trigun Maximum, and the edition label all need to match; a photograph of only a spine number is insufficient.

Keep anime and manga ordering separate

Use the Trigun watch-order guide to choose an anime version. For this purchase, the publisher’s sequel label settles the manga order. Do not convert an anime episode number into a Deluxe book number, or treat familiarity with an anime ending as evidence that the original manga book can be skipped.

A gift buyer can ask a more useful question than “Do you own Trigun?”: which of the two manga titles, which edition, and through which original volume? Write that down before ordering. The Trigun catalog separates the original Deluxe from Maximum Deluxe, and the table above shows exactly where their numbering restarts.
