The rulebook of the four noble houses put down mid-fight in favour of something older and much less official. Byakuya spends the Soul Society arc insisting the law is impersonal; this is him conceding it is not.

Instruction delivered from inside Ichigo's own head, where hesitation has weather and standing still has consequences. The sword is explaining the physics of the room its owner is standing in.

One sentence, arriving after a hundred chapters of glasses and gentleness, and the entire betrayal fits inside it. It is also the most reproduced line in the series, usually with no indication of who is speaking or what he has just done.

“Feelings, eh? Nah, 'fraid not. Don't got none o' them. Didn't I tell ya, back when we first met? I'm a snake. Cold of flesh and devoid of heart.” — Gin Ichimaru

A denial of having feelings, spoken by the character who has the most of them, to the person he has spent decades protecting by pretending otherwise.

Last words, spoken while reaching out and turning to ash. He had spent the entire arc asking Orihime what a heart was, in the tone of an auditor who suspects the paperwork is wrong.

“If I were the rain, that binds together the heavens and the earth, whom in all eternity will never mingle, would I be able to bind two hearts together?” — Orihime Inoue

Orihime's one sustained metaphor, and it only works because the series had already spent years making rain mean loss rather than weather.

“I detest "perfection". To be "perfect" is to be unable to improve any further.” — Mayuri Kurotsuchi
