Did Thorfinn Say “There Is No One That You Should Hurt”?

No. Thors says it, and he says it to Thorfinn, which is most of the reason the misattribution is so easy to make.

The verdict

Misattributed. The line belongs to Thors Snorresson, Thorfinn's father, early in the story. It is addressed to Thorfinn as a boy in Iceland, long before he becomes the person most readers picture when they see the quote.

Who actually says it

The line sits inside a short speech Thors gives his son, whose sense is that enemies are not a category the world hands you but one you agree to. Reporting on the series credits Thors with it by name, and places it in the second episode. Nobody credits Thorfinn.

What makes the swap so tempting is that Thorfinn does eventually arrive at his father's position. He just does not arrive at it in these words.

What Thorfinn actually says

Thorfinn's own version of the idea is three words: "I have no enemies." It first appears in chapter 96 of the manga, and it lands the way it does precisely because he has spent years as a mercenary doing the opposite. The sentence is short, and the story behind it is not.

Quoting the father's line under the son's name flattens that. It hands Thorfinn a conclusion he had to be broken to reach, and it takes from Thors the one piece of dialogue his whole character rests on.

Why the mix-up spreads

Attribution drifts toward whoever is famous. Thorfinn is the protagonist and the face on the cover; Thors is a supporting character who exits early. Aggregators reprint quotes without scenes attached, and once a line is separated from the moment that produced it, the only thing anchoring it is a name, which is exactly the part that gets typed from memory.

This site published the error. The line ran here as a featured Thorfinn quote until 16 August 2026, with a note admitting it echoed Thors, which is the row saying it is wrong if anyone reads it as a claim instead of a hedge. It was corrected after checking the attribution against reporting that names Thors and the episode. Our own verification notes had already flagged the neighbouring sentence of the same speech as Thors and not Thorfinn; only half the speech got fixed at the time. Checking the line next to the one you are checking is now part of the process.
