Vinland Saga Manga: Regular vs Deluxe Hardcovers

Compare Kodansha’s regular Vinland Saga hardcovers with the Deluxe hardcovers: what each book collects, checked ISBNs and list prices, and which line is announced to reach the ending.

Last updated October 7, 2026

Vinland Saga has two English hardcover lines from Kodansha, and their book numbers count different things. Regular Book One collects two Japanese volumes; Deluxe 1 collects three. Neither number is a Japanese volume number, so choose the line first, and match contents rather than spines if you ever switch.

Regular hardcoversBooks 1–14 released; final Book 15 announced for October 13, 2026Book One: volumes 1–2. Book 14: volumes 27–28.$19.99 (Books 1–4); $22.99 (Books 5–14); Book 15 unresolved
Deluxe hardcoversDeluxe 1–8 releasedVolumes 1–24, three to a book$54.99 each

At those prices, regular Books 1–14 total $309.86 and Deluxe 1–8 total $439.92. The two totals do not buy the same story. The eighth Deluxe book ends at Japanese volume 24, while regular Book 14 already contains volumes 27 and 28. Because only some regular listings state their Japanese contents, this guide does not offer a like-for-like price per Japanese volume.

Regular hardcovers: the line set to reach the ending

Kodansha’s February 2013 announcement of Book One (an Internet Archive copy captured April 14, 2021) described it as “Two volumes in one” and “The first Kodansha Comics hardcover release.” Book One is ISBN 9781612624204, on sale October 14, 2013, at $19.99. Book 14, ISBN 9781646519552, went on sale May 27, 2025, at $22.99; its distributor listing says it “Includes Japanese manga volumes 27 and 28.”

Book 15, ISBN 9798888779347, is the last regular book: the distributor’s listing calls it the “FINAL VOLUME!” and gives October 13, 2026 as its print on-sale date. As checked October 7, 2026, it is a preorder, not a released book. That listing shows $18.99. Our catalog review of October 6, 2026 recorded $19.99 on Kodansha’s own listing, which could not be reopened on October 7, so the catalog entry leaves the price blank until the two agree.

Regular-book page counts are left out on purpose: our catalog review found different publisher and distributor figures for Book One, so the catalog holds the field blank.

Deluxe hardcovers: three Japanese volumes a book

Each Deluxe listing describes a “premium collector’s hardcover” containing three named Japanese volumes and “original bonus content.” The distributor gives Deluxe 1’s dimensions as 7.32 by 10.3 inches, against 5.94 by 8.27 inches for regular Book One. A larger page is a measurable difference. It says nothing about paper, binding or print quality, and this guide makes no claim about those.

The Deluxe books run from 608 to 688 pages. Deluxe 8 went on sale September 2, 2025. Penguin Random House’s Deluxe series page lists Deluxe 1–8. A ninth Deluxe book could not be confirmed from a publisher or distributor page on October 7, 2026, so this guide does not say when, or whether, the Deluxe line will reach the ending.

Which line to buy

  • To read to the end in print: the regular hardcovers, which conclude with Book 15, announced for October 13, 2026. Start at Book One.
  • For the larger format: the Deluxe line, starting with Deluxe 1, on the understanding that the eight books listed so far stop at Japanese volume 24.
  • After Deluxe 8, to keep going: the next material is Japanese volume 25. The checked regular listings do not say which regular book begins with it, only that Book 14 holds 27 and 28. Check the regular book’s stated contents before paying, rather than counting spines.
  • After regular Book One, switching to Deluxe: Deluxe 2 starts at Japanese volume 4, so it skips volume 3. Our edition-switching guide works through that overlap.

Buying both opening books repeats Japanese volumes 1 and 2. For where the anime stops and what it adapts, see the watch-order guide; for the story’s ending, with spoilers, see the ending analysis.
