Vinland Saga: Sub or Which Dub?
Identify Sentai, Netflix/VSI and Crunchyroll’s Season Two production before choosing a Vinland Saga English track.
Vinland Saga's English choice needs a production name. Season One has separate Sentai and Netflix/VSI dubs. Season Two has a Crunchyroll production that continues key Sentai casting, alongside a separate Netflix/VSI production. Start with the cast you want to hear and check the next season's credits before you settle in.
Season One: two English productions
ANN's encyclopedia names Mike Haimoto as Thorfinn, Shannon Emerick as young Thorfinn, David Wald as Askeladd and Joe Daniels as Thorkell for the Sentai dub. It separately credits Aleks Le as Thorfinn, Laura Stahl as young Thorfinn, Kirk Thornton as Askeladd and Patrick Seitz as Thorkell for the Netflix dub, with VSI Los Angeles as its dubbing studio. The Season One credits establish two distinct English casts.
| Season One role | Sentai | Netflix/VSI |
|---|---|---|
| Thorfinn | Mike Haimoto | Aleks Le |
| Young Thorfinn | Shannon Emerick | Laura Stahl |
| Askeladd | David Wald | Kirk Thornton |
| Thorkell | Joe Daniels | Patrick Seitz |
Season Two: identify the continuation
ANN's Crunchyroll dub announcement says Haimoto returns as Thorfinn, identifies Ian Sinclair as Einar and names Jerry Jewell as director. This is a new production announcement rather than a statement that Sentai produced Season Two. Read the announcement to identify the continuation.
For the other English track, ANN's Season Two credits name Aleks Le as Thorfinn and Alejandro Saab as Einar, with VSI Los Angeles identified for the Netflix dub. The Japanese Thorfinn is Yūto Uemura in both seasons. The Season Two credits distinguish these options.
Which should you choose?
If you want to hear Le as Thorfinn, follow the Netflix/VSI credits. If you want Haimoto's Thorfinn, identify Sentai for Season One and Crunchyroll's production for Season Two. If hearing Uemura is your priority, choose Japanese. Those recommendations follow the cast identities; they do not rank the actors' ability to portray grief, anger or restraint.
For an undecided English viewer, compare a Thorfinn exchange in the two Season One tracks. Include another speaker, such as Askeladd, rather than reducing the trial to a brief shout. The cast distinction makes this a comparison of two English ensembles, in addition to the usual Japanese-versus-English question. Preference for one actor need not determine every supporting performance.
Continuity and the audio menu
A season switch is a sensible point to check credits again. Matching Thorfinn's voice is a practical priority if you prefer continuity; choosing a new interpretation is also a defensible decision. A production announcement establishes the historical recording, while access through a particular account or region is a separate check.
Use the credits above as identifiers when looking at your edition's audio menu. A menu labeled simply English may need a credit check to answer which production it contains. For a saved quotation, record the season, episode and English production as well as the wording. For sequencing, see the Vinland Saga watch order.
