Chapters 43 to 46 are one fight and very little else, which is the honest description and the reason to read them collected rather than alone. Eren fights the Armored Titan with grappling he learned from Annie, loses to the Colossus Titan, and is carried off; the book ends with a rescue party setting out. Nothing resolves and no question is answered. Season 2 covers chapters 35 to 51, so the anime has been through all of it. Omnibus 4 holds Vols. 10 to 12, which is the reveal, this fight and the resolution together for $19.99 against $32.97 as three singles.

The fight is the series arguing with its own genre. Eren loses the first exchange because strength is not the variable, wins the second because Annie taught him to throw, and loses the match anyway because Bertolt drops on him from the top of a wall. Technique keeps doing the work of characterization: the grappling comes out of Vol. 4's training flashback, the second debt that flashback pays. What the volume withholds is motive. Reiner and Bertolt have now breached two walls and caused tens of thousands of deaths, and the reader is given no reason for any of it until Vol. 22. The Japanese volume shipped on 9 August 2013.
