- Final Season Part 1 ep. 60–75
The most abrupt change of register the series attempts happens in chapters 91 to 94. The volume opens four years later, in a different country, with a cast of children the reader has never met, fighting a war nobody has mentioned. Eren does not appear as himself. Season 4 begins at chapter 91, the first chapter here, so a viewer who finished season 3 starts at page one with nothing skipped. Colossal Edition 5 holds Vols. 21 to 25.

The gamble is that a reader will transfer sympathy to Gabi Braun inside four chapters, after twenty-two volumes of being taught to want her side dead. Isayama does it with the equipment he used on the 104th in Vol. 4: training, rivalry, a hierarchy that spends children. Reiner is the bridge, and much of the book is his memory of his youth and his selection as a Warrior. The oldest device in the series is running again here. Marley, Eldia and the Warrior program were all named in Vol. 21, and this is the volume where they acquire streets, uniforms and a rail network. The Japanese volume shipped on 9 August 2017.
