Final Season Part 1 ep. 60–75

Chapters 95 to 98 are mostly flashback, and a reader in a hurry should know that before paying. Most of the book is Reiner remembering the mission the reader watched from the other side in Vols. 1 to 12, with a briefing on the Tybur family attached. One page at the very end pays for the rest of it, and it is the page the whole Marley arc has been walking toward. The Final Season part 1 covers chapters 91 to 116, so a viewer has seen it. Omnibus 8 ends here with Vols. 22 to 24, which is the ocean, the Marley turn and this book in one object.

The flashback earns its length by answering a question the series left open: why three teenagers destroyed a city. The answer is that Marcel Galliard rigged the selection to spare his own brother, was eaten in front of them, and left Reiner in command of a mission he had not been chosen for and could not abandon without going home a failure. Reiner contemplating suicide in the present is the same scene from the far end of it. The Tybur briefing is setup for Vol. 25, where Willy declares war and is eaten for it. The Japanese volume shipped on 8 December 2017.
