- Final Season Part 1 ep. 60–75
Chapters 107 to 110 are a politics volume. A foreign ambassador negotiates mineral rights, a queen's pregnancy becomes an instrument of policy, and a faction forms inside the army. There is no fight in it worth the name. It matters and it is slow, and both are worth knowing before buying. The Final Season part 1 covers chapters 91 to 116, so a viewer has seen it. Omnibus 9 ends here with Vols. 25 to 27 for $19.99 against $32.97 as singles, which is the cheapest route through this stretch.
Spoilers — why this volume matters. Tap to reveal.
The Hizuru deal is the series being specific about what Paradis is worth: an island with a resource, negotiating from a position of threat, trading fifty years of deterrence for industrialization. The arrangement needs a royal-blooded Titan in every generation, and Historia consenting to that is the ugliest thing anybody agrees to in the book. What the volume is really doing is taking Eren out of the reader's view. He is in a cell, then out of it, then a movement, and from here to Vol. 30 the series tells his story through the people trying to work out what he wants. The Japanese volume shipped on 7 December 2018.
