Bleach Volume 4 begins with Kon trying to find a more welcoming home than Ichigo's room. Its contents list chapters 26–34; this note covers only the licensed VIZ preview's opening pages 7–19. The opening is a comic pause, not by itself a reason to buy the run or evidence that the whole book is light material. Omnibus 2 repeats this paperback with standard volumes 5 and 6, and Box Set 1 includes it.

Kon tells the opening as a wounded hero in search of affection, but the scenes make his complaint less innocent than his narration. Ichigo and Rukia do treat his stuffed body roughly while cleaning it; that gives his wish to leave a concrete cause. On the street, however, he imagines Orihime picking him up so that he can enjoy access to her body. His supposed search for belonging quickly becomes an attempt to use the appearance of a harmless toy. The fantasy fails because she is playing a game, and another encounter turns him into a potential television curiosity rather than a cherished companion. The comic reversal is exact: Kon wants recognition as a person when mistreated, then concealment as an object when it suits him. These pages leave his search unfinished.
