Bleach Volume 6 opens with a family emergency and questions about newly awakened powers. The inspected contents list chapters 44 to 52. Its first chapter moves between the school, Urahara's shop and the Hollow-filled streets rather than beginning a new adventure. Read it after the preceding standard book. Omnibus 2 and Box Set 1 include this volume, so either already supplies these chapters; the single is useful for continuing a standard-paperback collection.

The opening distributes power without distributing control. Chad and Orihime have survived, but Urahara immediately makes the origin of their abilities a question. Outside, Ichigo's bravado contrasts with Ishida's recognition that his arrows are losing strength against the accumulating Hollows. Rukia has a different limitation: her attack fails against an opponent deflecting it, and she doubts how much strength she has recovered in her temporary body. These are distinct failures, not a ranking of which defender matters least. The last inspected page brings Ichigo into Rukia's fight, changing who is present without showing the result. This reading covers only printed pages 7 to 19 of the licensed VIZ preview. The excerpt establishes a need for help; it does not establish that help has solved the crisis.
