Death Note Volume 11 opens with Near preparing to investigate Takada in Japan. Chapters 89–98 continue the main story after the preceding standard book, with the checked opening bringing Near and Light into a direct telephone exchange. This bounded note stops before either plan succeeds, so it cannot establish a safe stopping point or the later confrontation's outcome. The sixth Black Edition collects this book with the final standard volume; the Complete Box Set and All-in-One also overlap it.

Near tells Light where the investigation is going, then asks him to pass that information to Takada. The apparent disclosure comes with a precise limit: report the investigators' presence, but do not show their faces. It turns communication into an invitation to act under conditions Near has chosen. Light recognizes the invitation and treats his own contacts as bait in return. Their confidence does not make everyone around them equally informed. Aizawa asks whether removing the cameras has left them merely talking, while another colleague finds Light's announced contact with Takada difficult to reconcile with suspicion. Light uses those objections as material for his own calculations. The opening's contest depends on managing what people can verify, what they hear and what they infer from openness. Naming the opponent aloud still leaves the burden of proof intact.
