Death Note standard paperback 3 contains chapters 17 to 25 and opens with Light under surveillance at home. This continues the investigation already in progress; it is not the beginning of a separate case. Black Edition 2 collects this single with standard Volume 4, so Black Edition 3 would skip ahead. The All-in-One also contains these chapters. Pick the binding by its stated contents rather than matching the number on this paperback’s spine.

Light’s bedroom becomes a performance space before the camera investigation has produced a verdict. The opening pairs his plans for apparently ordinary studying and private reading with L’s suspicion that ordinary behavior may be calculated. Ryuk searches for cameras that the investigators cannot see him finding. Light’s advantage therefore depends on help invisible to his opponents, not simply on being cleverer than everyone in the room. His father’s discomfort with spying does not settle L’s interpretation of what they watch. Even a broadcast designed to provoke Kira becomes another test of how a suspect interprets the test. The reading is bounded to printed pages 7–19 of VIZ’s licensed Volume 3 preview, part of chapter 17. It does not claim that Light wins the surveillance contest.
