Death Note Volume 7 opens with Higuchi surrounded by the police and the task force preparing to question him. Its contents run from Scream to Number Two. This standard paperback continues the pursuit rather than introducing a new case. The reading here covers only pages 7–21 of VIZ's licensed preview. The opening changes the investigators' access to evidence; the discussion below includes that change but does not report the rest of the capture sequence or the volume's later consequences.

The police surround Higuchi with weapons and covered faces, controlling the dangers they already understand. Taking his notebook exposes a limit to that preparation. Soichiro sees Rem only after touching it, while the helicopter's observers initially have only his frightened report. Passing the object onward turns an extraordinary claim into something another investigator can test directly. Yet shared access does not produce equal knowledge. L uses the encounter to reconsider the existence of more than one notebook and what earlier meetings could have meant. Rem's private explanation identifies a separate risk: Light's lost memories can return through contact, with persistence dependent on ownership. The montage of his returning memories therefore makes the same evidence potentially informative for the investigators and restorative for the person they are investigating.
