Dragon Ball Super Volume 3 opens by returning to Future Trunks's past, a few years before his return to the present. The inspected contents establish chapters 16 to 20; their use of episode labels is manga numbering, not an anime viewing boundary. The opening follows Trunks's training with the Z Sword and its interruption by Babidi's attack. Continue from the previous Super paperback for the surrounding situation. This note does not examine the later identity revelations named in the contents.

The training begins with confidence in a weapon and an ally's plan to stop Majin Boo's resurrection. Dabura's arrival makes those preparations fragile: the sword breaks, and Trunks faces an opponent who can turn people to stone. Anger after the attacks on his companions changes Trunks's strength, but that change alone does not free him from Babidi's immobilizing spell. The wounded Lord of Lords still intervenes to stop Dabura moving, creating an opening Trunks could not make solely by striking harder. The sequence connects increased power with dependence on an injured ally rather than treating rage as a complete solution. The last visible explosion does not establish every consequence of the battle. This reading covers only printed pages 7 to 21 of the licensed VIZ preview, within the opening chapter.
