Dragon Ball Z Volume 2 opens after Raditz’s attack, with Goku and Gohan facing separate routes toward training. Its contents list Tales 11–22 in the English Z numbering. The analysis here reads only printed pages 7–17 from VIZ’s licensed preview, rather than the entire training period. Z VIZBIG 1 also contains this single; the continuous Dragon Ball 3-in-1 book 6 pairs it with Dragon Ball 16 and Z 1. Those collected spine numbers describe different purchases. Start with Z 1 if entering this English run, or original Dragon Ball 1 for the earlier story.

The opening makes preparation depend on people whose judgment remains uncertain. Bulma offers to repair the scouter and locate absent fighters, while Piccolo treats Gohan’s potential as a reason to take control of his training. Bulma raises the parents’ permission; Piccolo answers with a threat and leaves with the unconscious child. A defensive purpose does not make that decision consensual. Goku’s route likewise requires assistance: Kami petitions Enma for permission to seek stronger instruction in the afterlife. Kami then admits uncertainty about both Goku’s possible improvement and Piccolo’s treatment of Gohan. This reading is limited to Tale 11’s opening, printed pages 7–17 in VIZ’s preview. It establishes dependence and coercion, not the later success of either training plan.
