Dragon Ball Z Volume 3 opens inside the fight against Nappa and Vegeta, rather than at a new training stage. Its printed contents list Tales 23–34 in the English Z numbering. The discussion reads only pages 7–17 of VIZ’s licensed opening preview, so it does not certify the volume’s later outcomes or an anime handoff. Z VIZBIG 1 collects this single with Z 1–2. The continuous Dragon Ball 3-in-1 book 7 instead groups Z 3–5: it starts here, despite a larger number on its spine.

Nappa’s opening attack turns the group’s resistance into separate emergencies. Tenshinhan loses an arm; Kuririn has to escape a blast, and Piccolo recognizes the scale of the opponent’s strength. The scene makes coordination difficult because helping another fighter means surviving long enough to reach him. Vegeta’s conduct provides a useful counterexample to treating the Saiyans as entirely indifferent to one another: when Chiaotzu clings to Nappa’s back, Vegeta warns him. That warning is practical cooperation within a brutal attack, rather than evidence of kindness toward their opponents. These observations come from Tale 23, printed pages 7–17 in VIZ’s licensed preview. The excerpt ends before Chiaotzu’s next decision; its result cannot serve as evidence for this reading.
