Frieren Volume 6 starts immediately after the checked box collecting standard volumes 1–5. The second examination sends Frieren and the other candidates into an unmapped dungeon. This paperback continues the examination story rather than providing a new starting point. If that box is already on the shelf, this standard book adds the next material. The discussion below compares the opening dungeon setup with its memory of Himmel; it does not summarize the remaining examination or claim a complete review of the volume.

The dungeon setup brings back a disagreement about what an adventure is for. Frieren warns Himmel that increasingly dangerous expeditions cannot continue forever. His answer puts enjoyment inside the journey itself, with saving the world imagined as something accomplished along the way. The objection to him remains substantial: enthusiasm does not make danger harmless. What changes Frieren's response is his suggestion that a rare grimoire might lie ahead. She wants to proceed. In this memory, Himmel persuades through a particular companion's appetite rather than a speech about duty. Its return during an examination gives the dungeon two meanings: an assigned test and a place she has reasons of her own to explore. That reading does not require treating every expedition as a calculated lesson Himmel arranged for her future.

Lines from this volume

“Enjoying the adventure, raiding dungeons, defeating monsters, and finding treasures. And one day I realize that I ended up saving the world in the process. That's the sort of journey I'd like to have.”

Himmel, Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Source / locator: Viz English manga, Vol. 6, chapter 48 (The Ruins of the King's Tomb), p. 15 (flashback, lettered in italics). Read first-hand at full resolution in VIZ's official free preview of Vol. 6 (ordinary preview button, no login), 25 September 2026. Two balloons in one close-up panel of Himmel, read top to bottom; his "Well, I intend to enjoy myself until the end." in the neighboring panel precedes them. Lettering sentence-cased from all caps. Frieren's "What are you waiting for? Let's go back now." has no tail; it is given to her because she is drawn pointing beside it and Himmel's "Umm..." answers it. Commentary also draws on Vol. 6, pp. 4-5 and 15. Viz · Publisher source

Frieren's objection is practical: as the journey goes on, the dungeons will only become more dangerous, and this cannot last forever. It is a fair point about a party of humans, and she is the member who will live longest with the results of a bad raid. Himmel concedes nothing about risk. He reorders the priorities instead: fun first, rescue as a byproduct, saving the world as something he would notice one day in passing. The strongest case against him is that a hero has no business ranking treasure hunting beside the fate of the world. The page answers with a bribe. He mentions that there could be a rare grimoire at the end of the other passage, and Frieren, who had just been warning him, is the one asking what he is waiting for. Himmel understood that enjoyment was what would keep an elf interested in a job that took years. The memory returns to her at the start of the second exam, which sends the candidates into an unmapped dungeon.
