Fullmetal Alchemist’s eighth book begins during the raid on Greed’s hideout. The licensed digital opening follows the soldiers, the fleeing chimeras and Alphonse’s confined view of the violence. This note covers chapter 30 only as far as printed page 17. It does not establish the confrontation’s result or the later chapters advertised in the digital contents. The reading witness is Yen Press’s English digital edition; the VIZ standard paperback listing keeps its separate physical metadata.

The soldiers call both the chimeras and their own leader inhuman, then admit that the killings leave a bad taste. Their language refuses to make the uniform a clean moral boundary, even while they continue participating in the raid. The next pages follow wounded fugitives through the underground passage rather than presenting the operation solely from its command. Alphonse’s position narrows that view further: he hears fighting without being able to see what is happening, and silence tells him only that the noise has stopped. The excerpt makes the violence legible through those incomplete reactions. A successful military operation would not, by itself, settle the soldiers’ discomfort or tell Alphonse whom he can protect. The inspected opening ends before it supplies those answers.
