Fullmetal Alchemist’s ninth book opens with repairs and a train journey. Its licensed digital preview begins chapter 34 with a replacement mask, Edward’s restored arm and the traveling party’s awkward introductions. This note reads only printed pages 7 to 17; it does not describe the later arrest story from the contents or establish how the journey ends. Yen Press supplies the digital reading witness. The VIZ paperback’s previously verified chapters 34 to 37 and physical listing remain separate.

Edward thinks Lan Fan is upset because her mask looks better than his replacement. The joke turns when Alphonse produces a new mask and she struggles to thank him: Edward has mistaken attachment for a judgment of his taste. His own repaired arm immediately makes gratitude less simple. He complains about the delay and wants the people who broke it to pay, while Ling asks him to forgive his retainers. These small exchanges place the costs of their recent violence inside ordinary social obligations. On the train, Edward then mocks Ling for needing attendants before discovering that the supposedly dependent traveler is younger and taller than he is. Edward keeps trying to rank people from appearances; the opening keeps embarrassing that method. The comedy does not prove the group has resolved its disagreements or reached safety.
