Season 2: Shibuya Incident ep. 30–47

Chapters 107 to 115, and the volume where the restraint comes off. Sukuna has spent twelve books as a passenger with a hostage's leverage and no reason to act. In this one the antagonists give him a reason, and the consequence is a catastrophe, delivered by the character the protagonist is carrying. What that costs is Vol. 14's business. Season 2 covers this book, so a viewer who finished it starts at Vol. 16. A reader should treat Vols. 13 and 14 as one purchase: the setup is here and the result is there, and neither half works without the other.

Geto's followers feed Yuji one of Sukuna's fingers and Jogo force-feeds him ten more, taking Sukuna to fifteen fingers of strength and full control of the body. Sukuna's response to being handed what his allies wanted him to have is to kill the people who handed it over, which is the series making its position on him clear: he is not an antagonist with goals that can be negotiated toward, he is an appetite with a technique. The other thread is Megumi against Toji, who does not know him, and who kills himself on being satisfied that his son chose the name Fushiguro over Zen'in. It is the closest the series comes to giving Megumi a father, and it lasts one fight. Readers who find the Shibuya arc emotionally flat tend to have read it for plot. Its method is to resolve long-set relationships inside fights and then move on within a chapter.
