Chapters 116 to 124, and the consequence of Vol. 13. The fight that book set up is fought here, a shikigami that adapts to anything is summoned against a curse user and Sukuna takes it on, and what Sukuna does to end it removes a large part of Shibuya and the people in it. Yuji then gets his body back and is handed the result. Season 2 covers this volume, so a viewer who finished it starts at Vol. 16. A reader buying singles needs Vol. 13 in front of this one. Viz lists it at 192 pages and $11.99.
Spoilers — why this volume matters. Tap to reveal.
Mahoraga adapts to any phenomenon it has seen, which makes it the only thing in the series with a guaranteed answer to anything, and Sukuna deals with it by opening his domain over an inhabited city. What matters is the accounting: Yuji was not conscious, Yuji did not choose it, and Yuji is the only person available to hold responsible. The volume then walks him into a half-burned Nanami, which is the beginning of the sequence this site quotes him from twice, both lines sourced to episode 44. The received view is that the Shibuya arc is where Jujutsu Kaisen became serious. The more precise claim is that this is where it stopped letting its protagonist be innocent, and the remaining sixteen volumes are about whether that is a thing a person can carry rather than whether he can win.
