- Season 2: Shibuya Incident ep. 30–47
Chapters 125 to 133, and the end of the fight the series has been building since Vol. 3. Mahito and Yuji finish it here, with Todo arriving to make it possible, and the cost is on the first page. This is the last volume in the Shibuya arc that resolves anything: Vol. 16 is aftermath and consequence, and the arc's actual conclusion belongs to the antagonist rather than to anyone who won a fight. Season 2 covers it, so an anime viewer starts at Vol. 16. A reader who wants one complete story from this series can stop after the next book.
Spoilers — why this volume matters. Tap to reveal.
Nobara, touched by Mahito at the end of Vol. 14, falls to his technique at the start of this volume and is out of the series for a very long time. The series does not confirm her death and does not resolve it either, which readers have argued about since 2021; the fact of the matter is that she does not appear again until Vol. 30. What the volume gets right is Todo. His technique swaps the positions of two targets, which the series has used as a gag and a tactic, and here it is used as a way of keeping Yuji fighting when Yuji has stopped wanting to. The Mahito fight ends with Yuji stating that he will kill him however many times it takes, a line this site carries sourced to season 2, episode 21. Then Kenjaku absorbs Mahito before Yuji can finish it, which is the arc telling the reader that winning the fight was never the thing at stake.
