- Season 3: The Culling Game Part 1 ep. 48–59
Chapters 153 to 161, and the volume that recruits the two characters the Culling Game needs. Both are introduced as problems rather than allies: a suspended student running an underground fight club, and a defense lawyer whose technique woke up when his faith in the courts did not survive his caseload. Season 3 covers this book, so a viewer who finished it starts at Vol. 21. A reader arriving from Vol. 17 has the rules and now gets the people who will bend them. This site's line from Yuji about being a cog comes from this stretch, spoken to the fight club's owner.

Kinji Hakari is the series arguing with itself. His technique is a pachinko machine: he opens a domain, a sequence plays, and if it lands he becomes effectively unkillable for four minutes. A series that has spent seventeen volumes insisting that strength is earned through binding vows and technique mastery introduces a first-rate sorcerer whose power is luck, and the series does not apologize for it. Hiromi Higuruma is the opposite argument, a man whose technique is a courtroom and whose weapon is a verdict. Between them they are the most interesting pair of powers in the run, and Vol. 19 is where that pays. What the volume does structurally is convert the Culling Game from a fight into a recruitment drive, since the plan is to gather players with points and have them legislate. Readers who wanted the Shibuya arc's momentum find this the moment the series changed genre.
