Season 3: The Culling Game Part 1 ep. 48–59

Chapters 181 to 190, and the book a season 3 viewer buys for nine chapters out of ten. Season 3 adapted through chapter 181, which is this volume's first chapter and the tail of the Sendai fight, so the anime has shown the opening and nothing else. The where-to-start form, given episode 59, answers chapter 182 and names this volume. Season 4 was announced on 19 June 2026 with no broadcast date, so a viewer waiting for it is waiting on an unscheduled series. At 216 pages this is the longest standard volume Viz has published for the run.

The bulk of it is Hakari, and it is either the best fight in the Culling Game or the moment the series lost its readers, depending on who is asked. His domain is a pachinko machine that pays out a four-minute state in which he cannot be killed, and the volume renders the jackpot sequence at length. Against him is Hajime Kashimo, a sorcerer reincarnated from four hundred years ago who entered the game for one reason, which is to fight Sukuna, and who is testing whether anyone else is worth the wait. The fight is long, mechanically strange, and about nothing except whether the two men are enjoying themselves. That is the honest description and also the case for it: after twenty volumes in which every fight is about grief or responsibility, Akutami writes one in which two people are simply pleased to be there.
