Chapters 62 to 70, and the volume where arriving from the anime gets confusing. Season 1 stops at chapter 64, the third chapter in this book, and season 2 then goes backwards: episodes 25 to 29 adapt chapters 65 to 79, a flashback set in 2006. So a viewer who finished season 1 starts here, three chapters in, and a viewer who finished season 2 is already past this book and starts at Vol. 16. The where-to-start form answers chapter 65 for episode 24 and chapter 80 for episode 29, which are two volumes apart. In Japan this volume and Vol. 9 shipped on the same day; Viz split them by two months.

Chapters 62 and 63 finish the Death Painting fight and chapter 64 is the promotion scene the anime used twice, once to close season 1 and once to open episode 30. Then chapter 65 drops to 2006 and the series changes protagonist for fifteen chapters. What the flashback is for is Gojo: the strongest character in the story is introduced as a student who is not yet the strongest, alongside Suguru Geto, who at this point is his friend. This site's Gojo line about being the honored one is sourced to season 2, episode 4, inside this stretch, and the fact-check on it records that the words are the newborn Buddha's declaration. Shueisha shipped Vols. 8 and 9 together on 4 January 2020; the English edition split them.
