Chapters 71 to 79, and the end of the 2006 flashback. It finishes the flashback that Vol. 8 began: an assassin with no cursed energy at all, a client the two students were assigned to protect, and the outcome that makes Gojo what he is and makes his friend into the antagonist of everything through Vol. 16. Season 2's episodes 25 to 29 cover chapters 65 to 79, which ends on this volume's last page, so a viewer who stopped at episode 29 starts at Vol. 10. A viewer who watched all of season 2 is past it. Viz lists it at $11.99.

Toji Fushiguro is the argument. He is born into a sorcerer clan with no cursed energy, compensates with a body that should not be possible, and apparently kills the strongest student alive with a cursed tool that ignores what makes him strong. Gojo survives by using reverse cursed technique for the first time, which is the series stating plainly that he became the strongest in the middle of losing. The other half is Geto, who does everything right, watches it fail, and concludes that the people sorcerers protect are the reason curses exist. The series gives him a coherent argument and does not answer it. What makes the flashback better than the present-day chapters around it is scope: two people, one job, a clean failure, and consequences that are still being paid in Vol. 30. Toji's last act is to tell Gojo that his son will be sold to the Zen'in clan, which is how Megumi is in this series at all.
