The attack on Tachikawa base continues, with Hoshina confronting its strongest kaiju. This is a continuation of the base emergency, so the surrounding volumes matter more than treating the paperback as an isolated monster encounter. Kafka still has to weigh intervention against exposure. A battle at the Defense Force base places that choice among the people most equipped to notice him, making concealment an operational problem as well as a private one.

Hoshina commits his full combat power, yet the daikaiju transforms when the battle appears settled. Kafka detects the change. The significance of that sequence is the gap between recognizing danger and being able to respond without consequences: his extra information comes attached to the identity he conceals. Reading the attack across its volume boundary keeps that dilemma attached to the officers defending the base. This book is not the reason to buy the run for a self-contained confrontation. The attack is already in motion, and its strongest argument depends on Kafka having something to lose among its defenders.
