This book does not stand alone: it opens in the middle of one fight and closes in the middle of another. Chapters 413 to 422 finish what Taka started against Killer Bee, move the Raikage to call a summit of the five Kage, complete Naruto's senjutsu training away from all of it, and then put Pain's six bodies inside Konoha for the last four chapters. Nothing in that list both begins and ends here. Shippuden season 8 covers chapters 412 to 450, so the anime has been through the whole book and no boundary falls inside it. A reader buying one volume out of this arc should not make it this one. It belongs to the run from 44 to 48, and on its own it is arrangement.

The capture is worthless, and the book says so in the same ten chapters that stage it. Killer Bee at full power takes Taka apart, and Sasuke uses the Mangekyo Sharingan he has only just acquired to suppress the beast and take him. Then Akatsuki opens the extraction and finds a body that is not Killer Bee. The cost was real and the prize was not, which is the most economical thing this volume does. The rest is arrangement with a long reach: the Raikage's response is the Five Kage Summit that structures the arc after this one, and Naruto finishing his training offscreen is the series putting him somewhere he cannot be reached while Konoha is attacked. Kakashi against two of Pain's bodies in the last chapter is the start of the sequence the next volume is built around, and it is why stopping here is the worst stop in the range.
