Chapters 423 to 432 are where the series stops protecting its setting. Pain's bodies work through Konoha while its ninja try to keep Naruto's location out of them, and Naruto himself is elsewhere for most of the book. What happens to the village belongs in the section below, because it is the one fact in this arc most worth getting from the book rather than from a search result. Shippuden season 8 covers chapters 412 to 450, so a viewer who finished it has read past this book and the next, and starts three chapters from the end of Vol. 48. Viz lists 192 pages at $11.99, and Box Set 2, stated as volumes 28 to 48, is the only set that contains this volume.

Kakashi dies. He destroys one of the bodies, cannot touch the next, and spends his last effort making sure the intelligence he gathered reaches the village rather than dying with him; the book gives him a chapter with his own name on it and an afterlife scene with his father. Pain then locates Naruto, does not get him, and flattens Konoha to demonstrate the point chapter 429 states in its title. Naruto arrives immediately afterwards and cuts Pain down to two bodies. The death is what the volume is built to land. The erasure of the village is the larger commitment, and it is the one the run takes back: Vol. 48 reverses it outright, and that is the strongest objection to this stretch, unanswered anywhere inside it.
