- Season 18: Obito Uchiha 「忍界大戦・うちはオビト」 ep. 373–393
The series changes opponents inside this book, and the way it disposes of the one it has been fighting is the part worth arguing with. Chapters 648 to 657 keep Naruto and Sasuke on Obito while the Alliance, the Hokage and Orochimaru work on the Divine Tree, and the closing chapters hand the rest of the run to somebody else. Shippuden season 18 covers chapters 631 to 662, so the anime is through all of it. Whether the volume works for a reader turns on whether they accept the method Naruto uses to end a fight that is not really about power. Nothing here is a place to stop. The engagement begun in Vol. 66 is finished inside these chapters and its replacement is running before the book closes. 192 pages at Viz’s usual $11.99.

Naruto talks Obito down. He pulls the tailed beasts out of him and, during the transfer, argues the man who started the war into no longer being that man, which is the series' oldest move applied to its largest villain. Kakashi moves to kill him and Minato stops it. Then Obito tries to pay: he offers his own life to revive everyone he killed, and Black Zetsu redirects the technique and brings back Madara instead. That swap is what the last four volumes run on, and it is worth noticing how cheaply it is bought. An atonement is granted and voided in the same sequence by a character who had been standing behind the plot the whole time, and chapter 657 is titled 'Uchiha Madara Returns'. The enemy the series finishes on is one nobody in the story chose to face.
