- Season 20: Wano Country ep. 892–1088
The raid stops going badly here, and that is a change of register rather than a change of luck. Chapters 1016 to 1025 hand each of Kaido's officers to a member of Luffy's crew and let the crew answer, which is something Wano has not permitted since the Straw Hats landed in it. The book takes its English title from chapter 1022, and the title is accurate: the fights are staged as turns on a bill, one after another, rather than as an escalation. Luffy is off the island when it opens, and how he gets back is the spine. No anime boundary helps a reader place this book, because season 20 runs to chapter 1060 as one unbroken block and takes in every volume from 91 to 104.

Four of the crew win in this book, and the wins are the argument for the arc's length: Wano spent its first half distributing its cast across a country, and this is where it collects. Nami takes Ulti once the lightning cloud Zeus changes owners, Jimbei finishes the Tobi Roppo captain who turns out to have been a government agent, Franky finishes Sasaki, and Robin answers Black Maria by turning into a giant demon. Momonosuke's part is the load-bearing one: he asks Shinobu to age him into an adult so that he can carry Luffy back to the island, which finally makes something of a child sent twenty years forward in time to be useful later. Zoro and Sanji take King and Queen off Marco, setting up the two fights that run through Vol. 102. Killer beats Hawkins and then stops, because Hawkins has tied his own damage to Kid. The weakness of the book is that all of it is middle.
