Season 20: Wano Country ep. 892–1088

Two fights take up most of this book, and neither of them finishes inside it. Chapters 1026 to 1035 run Zoro against King and Sanji against Queen, both started in the previous volume and both still going at the last chapter, while Luffy and Kaido fight overhead and Onigashima loses altitude underneath all of it. The book is a middle and reads as one, which is the case for the collected editions: at a chapter a week this stretch was months of held breath, and bound together it has a structure. By our count, rather than by anything Viz states, this volume closes the Omnibus Edition book that opened at Vol. 100, so a reader buying the raid three volumes at a time has a clean stop here. A reader buying singles has none.

Zoro's fight with King is where Enma stops being a joke at his expense. The sword he took in Vol. 95 is a blade he struggles with, and the Lunarian's hidden defense is what forces him to solve it. Sanji's half is darker than its staging suggests: his body is behaving strangely, he suspects the Germa 66 suit has begun switching on the genetic modification his father built into him, and he asks Zoro to kill him if it does. That request is the quietest scene in the arc and it sits in a book otherwise made of dinosaurs. Elsewhere Killer removes Hawkins for good, Cipher Pol Zero stops watching and starts fighting, and Kanjuro's last work is a living flame of Kurozumi anger crawling toward the armory, which is the fuse the next volume burns. Komurasaki walks back into the story at the close, to draw Orochi out.
