Chapters 410 to 419, the book where one raid becomes five duels running at once. The island is already under the government's own destruction order when it opens, so everything here is on a clock: Nami against Kalifa in chapter 411, Sanji against Jabra in 414, Zoro against Kaku in 416, Luffy against Lucci from 418. The arrival worth marking is chapter 417, titled 'Asura', which is where that name enters the series and it belongs to Zoro. Season 9 takes in every chapter here. Viz has it at 224 pages for $11.99. The Omnibus Edition puts three volumes in one $16.99 book against $35.97 as singles, though Viz states the contents of the first omnibus only, so matching a single volume to one of them is arithmetic rather than a publisher listing.

Every CP9 fight but one is settled in these ten chapters, and the pacing is the achievement: four duels run to their ends while the Buster Call closes in, and the crew converges in time to stop Robin being taken past the point of no return. Robin is free by the last page, with the escape still to be arranged. Asura is the debut. Zoro takes the form against Kaku, and the chapter title is the only name the book gives it. Nami beats Kalifa and Sanji beats Jabra, which this arc needed: the crew spent the Water Seven volumes being told by everyone including itself that it had no business coming here, and the answer is distributed rather than handed to the captain. Chapter 419, 'Legend of a Hero', supplies the cover title. Luffy is still fighting when the book ends, which is the one thread Vol. 44 has to pick up.
